Worcester residents will be able to enjoy free tennis and pickleball courts this summer on selected days at two of the city’s parks.
Following the excitement of Wimbledon, Worcester City Council is funding free access to four tennis courts and four pickleball courts at Cripplegate Park, and two tennis courts at Gheluvelt Park.
The aim is to give people of all ages and abilities the chance to pick up a racket and get active.
The courts will be free to use on Wednesdays from 15 July to 12 August, between 5pm and 8pm.
At the weekend, they can also be booked for free on Saturdays and Sundays from 18 July to 16 August, between 2pm and 6pm. In total there will be 385 hours of free courts.
It is the sixth year that the City Council has funded this initiative. Last year’s sessions proved extremely popular, with 94% of the free booking slots taken up.
Councillor Jabba Riaz, Chair of Worcester City Council’s Communities Committee, said: “Whether you’re a regular player or have never picked up a racket before, this is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy tennis and pickleball for free in some of Worcester’s most popular parks.
“We want to make it as easy as possible for residents to get active, spend time outdoors and make use of the excellent facilities available in the city.
“The response to the free sessions last year was outstanding, and we’re delighted to be bringing them back for another summer.
“With Wimbledon inspiring people to play tennis across the country, now is the perfect time to give it a go.

The initiative is being delivered in partnership with Freedom Leisure.
