Comer Gardens Community Hall in Worcester has benefitted from a major ยฃ182,000 extension, creating a whole additional floor for use by the local community.
Funded by Worcester City Council, the project at the Comer Road building has seen the former flats on the first floor of the building replaced with a brand new community room and other facilities, available to be booked by local people and groups.
The Council invested ยฃ140,000 of its capital budget in the facility, alongside ยฃ42,000 from its share of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) to carry out the major refurbishment, which also includes a new kitchen area and toilets.
Councillor Jabba Riaz, Chair of the City Councilโs Communities Committee, said:
This is a fantastic new facility for people in the St Johnโs and St Clementโs areas of the city, and itโs set to be a hub for community activities.
โI am proud that we have been able to invest in Comer Gardens Community Hall to create a flexible new space that is perfect for everything from tea mornings to line dancing and yoga.
The ground floor of the community hall has been open for many years and is mainly used as a dance studio by the Focal Pointe dance school.
The new first floor facilities will allow for a major expansion in the activities and events hosted at the community hall, with a grand opening being planned for later in the summer.
