Worcester Show Showcases City’s Talent, Diversity and Community Pride

Thousands of people came together at Pitchcroft on Sunday to enjoy a day of community celebration at the Worcester Show, with a packed programme of live music, entertainment and activities.

The day began with a vibrant community procession, led by the Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Tor Pingree, setting the tone for a celebration of the city’s diverse communities and local talent.

Cllr Pingree, who is also a musician, then opened the Show and provided a special acoustic performance on the BBC Hereford & Worcester Stage.

Visitors enjoyed a diverse programme of entertainment throughout the day, featuring performances by Dhol drummers and dancer Nandini, who also led interactive workshops outside the Worcester Mela marquee.

Capas and the Rainmakers, the Emma Skipp Band, The Secret Cabaret and singer-songwriter Ava Hackett took to the main stage across the day.

Local performers and theatre groups were showcased on the Worcester Show Community Stage, providing an opportunity to celebrate emerging talent from across the city.

The Scala Worcester Festival of Play welcomed performers from the West Midlands Circus and Creation Centre, who wowed audiences with a spectacular acrobatic display and hands-on circus skills workshops.

The Competition Marquee displayed an impressive range of entries across numerous categories, with participants recognised during the trophy presentation ceremony.

In the Community Marquee, sponsored by Platform Housing Group, visitors were able to meet and learn more about the many organisations and groups that contribute to life in Worcester.

Elsewhere, visitors enjoyed a packed programme of activities, including sporting demonstrations in the Sports Zone and the ever-popular Village Games.

There was plenty to explore across the Show, from meeting alpacas and llamas to experiencing historical re-enactments and taking part in activities organised by local Scouts groups.

The Show's focus on sustainability was well received, with Worcester City Council staff offering recycling advice throughout the day and Beryl Bikes providing free rides to the Show.

Event sponsor Solar Select also engaged with visitors throughout the day, offering practical advice and information on renewable energy and sustainable living.

A wide range of local traders helped create a festival atmosphere, offering food, drink and unique products, with refreshments also available from event sponsors Tripel B and Bottles.

Councillor Jabba Riaz, Chair of Worcester City Council’s Communities Committee, said:

It was wonderful to see so many people coming together to celebrate everything that makes Worcester special.

“The Worcester show has gone from strength to strength and grown considerably since moving from Ghulevelt Park and I am thankful to all our visitors and residents each year for making it the great event it has become.

“This year the Worcester Show once again showcased the incredible talent, diversity and community spirit that exists across our city.

“From the community procession and fantastic live performances to the exhibitions, activities and local organisations on display, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

“Thank you to all the volunteers, performers, sponsors, community groups and visitors who helped make this year's event such a tremendous success.
